Did you ever realize the importance of all the fluids that go into your vehicle? You have brake fluid, transmission fluid, motor oil, and radiator coolant. All of these fluids have one purpose; to keep your car running correctly. If any of these fluids is low or contaminated, it can cause some severe issues.

When we talk about keeping your car temperature within the optimum range of function, we're talking about your radiator. The radiator is a crucial component in keeping your engine cool. And part of the job is done by the radiator coolant. So, if you have a radiator coolant leak, your car engine can overheat and break down.

Look for the following signs that your radiator might be leaking and in need of repair:

Visible Radiator Coolant Leak:

We have all seen days when we park our car, and there is a small puddle of what looks like water under it. In most cases, this is just water that has condensed from the air and has nowhere to go but on the ground. However, if you notice that this puddle is bright green or pink or has a sweet smell, it could signify a radiator coolant leak. It could be due to damaged hoses, a faulty radiator cap, or a hole in the radiator.

Radiator Fluid Level Drops Quickly:

How many times on average do you fill up your radiator coolant? If you notice that it seems like you constantly have to add more and more radiator coolant, it could be an indication of a leak. A radiator coolant leak will cause the coolant level to drop quickly, and you may have an overheating engine at hand. Check your car's overflow tank to see if the coolant is low. If it's low, add more and keep an eye on it.

Steam or Bubbles Coming from the Radiator:

An overheating engine is common car trouble! While there are several reasons an engine could overheat, one of the main is a radiator leak. Get alert if you observe the temperature gauge creeping up in the red zone. But if you start to see steam or bubbles coming from your radiator, that's a sure sign of a radiator leak. Park your car immediately to avoid engine damage. Once your vehicle cools, check the radiator coolant level to confirm a leak. If the radiator is dry, that's a bad sign.

Broken Radiator Hoses:

Radiator hoses are responsible for circulating coolant from the radiator to the engine. Over time, the rubber hoses can become brittle and crack. If you notice a radiator hose leaking, it's essential to replace it as soon as possible. Allowing the radiator coolant to seep out can cause an overheating engine. You can also check the hoses by feeling for any soft spots. If they're hard to the touch, they need to be replaced.

Conclusion:

A car radiator leak is a serious business. Don't ignore the signs! You must also maintain the proper coolant level in your radiator. If you're unsure, ask a qualified mechanic to check it for you.
