Advanced Ophthalmic Imaging

Researchers at the Advanced Ophthalmic Imaging Laboratory focus on using advanced imaging technologies to improve glaucoma diagnosis, monitor the disease progression, and understand the mechanism of the disease. Glaucoma, the second leading cause of blindness, is a neurodegenerative disease that affects the retina and optic nerve of the eye. There is currently no known cure for the condition, so early disease detection and a sensitive means for monitoring disease progression are crucial to direct treatment for vision conservation.

Directed by Chaim Wollstein, MD, director of resident research education at NYU Langone’s Department of Ophthalmology, our multidisciplinary research team includes ophthalmologists, engineers, software specialists, statisticians, and trainees. We use a variety of advanced imaging tools in human and animal models to improve clinical management of subjects with glaucoma.
