Like many conventional beds, hospital beds have a footboard at the foot end and a headboard at the head end. They are needed to change the beds, anchor the frame, and have a spot for fastening other devices. These pieces also prevent damage to the walls in the patient’s private room or their care facilities.
The headboards must be mounted securely to the bed frame so that the patient can use an overhead trapeze helper bar. Other helpful features, including overbed reading lights, make the bed more comfortable for the user. The footboard may support medical equipment, including pumps for air mattresses and those used for venous therapy.
