From a scientific point of view, there is NO evaporation from plastic or glass bottles. The evaporation comes from the seal between the cap/atomizer and the bottle. I think the problem some folks have with evaporation is that the "cheaper" the container, the less quality control. Glass costs more, better quality control assures a better seal and no evaporation. Plastic, especially the bargain bottles from Asia, have less quality control. This too is an over-generalization b/c I bought a gross (144) "quality" glass amber bottles from the USA and had to send them back b/c the caps all leaked when screwed on. As for the chemicals leaching into the fragrances over time...perhaps over time. Most small bottles for decants seem to be either polycarbonate or Polystyrene. Cherry picking through hundreds of studies can lead you to believe that A. They are dangerous and will cause all manner of mutations, or B. They are completely harmless. Bottom line is whatever harmful effects they may cause must be very very subtle, else virtually everyone in the world would show signs since we all use plastics. I must confess, There is only one frag. that I insisted on keeping in glass, my Amouage Tribute. When you pay $600 for 30msl, the paranoia gets the best of you. It's one of my least liked houses, but Bond no 9 actually sells some of their frags in plastic bottles. Not all of them, But some of those kitsch star bottles are definitely plastic.
People who insist that the frags "smell different" in plastic must remember the brain is great at making us think something is wrong when there isn't. I remember my great "Aventus batch experiment" where I made 3 decants out of the same bottle and asked people which "Batch" they liked better. I got long discussions on the smoke quality of one over the other, and people almost all had their preferred batch. They were identical though. The brain is powerful!
