There are various types of pipe supports that are used in piping systems like:
Rest Support: Rest supports carry the vertical loads of pipe with content and insulation. Spring Supports: There will be situations when due to thermal movement pipe lifts off the support location and does not carry the pipe load. So that load may be transferred to the nearby equipment nozzles. In such scenario spring supports are very efficient. They allow thermal movement while carrying pipe loads. Variable Spring hanger- Load varies with thermal displacement.
Constant Spring hanger- Load remain constant with displacement.
Trunnion Supports: Sometimes dummy pipe spools are used to support the main pipe. They are known as Trunnion or Dummy Supports.
Hold Down Support- A device that holds the pipe in position disallowing vertical upwards movement or allows decided upward movement. Hold down supports prevent pipe dis-engagement from the Support structure.
Adjustable Support An adjustable support can be adjusted at the site during plant operation. These supports are normally provided for pipe and equipment alignment purposes.
